Children, age 8 through 14, who have not yet received the sacrament of Baptism will be enrolled in the RCIA Adapted for Children program.

Each sacramental preparation program requires regular Sunday Mass attendance, participation in parent/student workshops, and attendance at retreats.  Confirmation Year 1 and Year 2 students are required to participate in the life of the parish by serving in one or more of the various parish ministries offered at OLHOC.  Further details about these and any other program requirements are given to those preparing for the sacraments.

Confirmation:  Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation is a two-year process. Typically, preparation  begins in seventh grade (Confirmation Year 1), and Confirmation is administered toward the end of the eighth grade (Confirmation Year 2). In general, students who have not been attending religious education classes will be placed in a lower grade in an effort to fill in any gaps in knowledge of the faith.

Parents should request enrollment in this 2-year Sacramental Prep program if their child meets the following requirements:

  1. has received the sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, and Holy Communion (or is finished with the first year of preparation for the latter two sacraments).
  2. A copy of the child's baptismal certificate is on file with the DRE, even if baptized at our parish.
  3. is entering seventh grade or higher.
  4. is enrolled in our OLHOC Religious Education program or a Catholic School.
  5. has attended religious instruction in the years since receiving the sacrament of Holy Communion.  Otherwise, the child may be placed in a lower grade in an effort to fill in any gaps in the knowledge of our faith.
